My wife does a lot of knitting. She is really good at it, but she has trouble counting stitches and dropping stitches once in a while as she has trouble seeing with the lamps we have in the house. But no more! This DAYLIGHT task light is simply awesome. As they said, it can be focused to a 3 inch spotlight, or spread to a two or three foot wide area light, just by slipping the lens down or up on the adjustment cylinder. The adjustment is one of those things that surprised me: It isn't threaded, or pneumatic, or anything fancy. The focusing lens housing simply slips up and down on the gooseneck cylinder because it is slightly bigger. I pointed it straight down to see if it would slip under the weight, but it stays exactly where I left it. As far as the base is concerned, it is quite heavy and sits like a squatting Bhudda statue on our medium pile rug. To kick this thing around you would have to break a toe, and I don't understand folks who said it wasn't heavy enough.Comments on other reviewers' complaints:WEIGHT OF THE BASE: Like I said, the base is quite heavy and gives excellent stability, even on pile carpetSPREAD OF LIGHT FOR READING: ? Three feet isn't enough? It is for me. Even a newspaper gets a good coverage, unless you are within less than two feet of the light itself.POLE SEGMENT THREADING: Mine fit perfectly from top to bottom. I started at the bottom, pulling the wire out as I screwed in each segment. Went together easily and fit perfectly.OVERALL STABILITY: Mine is very stable and the threaded sections appear to stay together just fine. Of course, I don't make a habit of kicking or banging the lamp a lot, any more than I would a table lamp, but my unit is very tight and secure.POWER SWITCHES/CONNECTIONS: There is a metal toggle switch on the back of that lump you see in the photo, where the gooseneck attaches to the pole, and there is an inline power connector about two feet from the base of the lamp. The power connector is fairly solid but you must remember that it can become disconnected if you pull at it. The toggle switch is mounted in metal and is solid. I have no problems with the unit we received.So. I must conclude that the manufacturer listened to his customers and corrected all the problems, or a few folk got units that missed getting a quality control inspection. Either way, by purchasing this via Amazon, it is guaranteed to work properly and be of good quality or Amazon will send you another one or refund your purchase price. That's good enough for me.I love this lamp and intend to buy another one. Thumbs up!This product is much less expensive than most LED reading lamps available at the time of this review ($120), many of which cost twice as much - I expect more competition as LED lighting becomes commonplace. But it's quite well built and fairly solid (note that the stand comes in sections that are screwed together, but if tightened properly is just fine). The combination of the gooseneck mounting and the ability to focus the beam to various sizes means that it should work for just about anybody. I spent some time locating both the base and gooseneck to be just right for my reading chair to eliminate glare, then just adjusted the focus for the brightest light to completely cover my Kindle DX - this is the lighting I was looking for! I have no way to measure the color temperature to see if it meets "daylight" standards, but it is very close to other daylight lamps I've used and is perfectly suited for reading compared to regular yellowish lamps. The LED lamp head solves a big problem for me. My reading chair is directly in front of the flatscreen TV, so my previous reading lamp (a curly CFL flourescent daylight bulb on an adjustable arm) would cast a wide beam of light that reflected from the TV screen back into my eyes, causing terrible glare unless I held what I'm reading between my eyes and the TV. The gooseneck mount and the tightly-focused beam of this product means there's very little side scatter of the light and the reflection on the TV is at least 90% less than before and causes no glare problem at all - yay!The design is minimalist and modern-looking, so if that suits you it should be fine otherwise - the design and build quality is just fine, especially for a Chinese mass-produced product that's shipped in cheaply-made but effective packaging; it arrived in perfect condition. Once assembled, it's sturdy, well finished and good looking. The toggle switch and focusing mechanism seem solid and should be long lasting; note that it is powered by a small wall transformer about the size of a cellphone charger, so you need a little extra room at the wall outlet compared to a standard electrical plug alone.I very much recommend you give this a try if you're looking for a good reading lamp and the LED design means it runs cool and should last for many years. This light was more flimsy than expected. Assembly was also a bit cumbersome. However, the light is very bright and I like that you can adjust the width of the light. Compared to other similar lights that I have seen in stores, this was still a good purchase for me.Light burned out after 6 months of light use..light got dimmer over time, was heating up and finally failed....a nice design but now an expensive piece of scrap metal. Would not recommend this lamp. It's quite a white light. The focusing feature also dims the light output. Solid build quality.Very good light for working on jigsaw puzzlegreat light, I can read at any time I please again! Two for the couch and one by the bed.
