The LED hanging light while bright in the highest setting but it drains battery quickly. The construction is okay but not water proof. The Chip on board (COB) LED array has ample amount of heat-sink but since it uses AAA batteries QTY 3 (4.5v) and the power drain is on the 'high side' thereby depleting the batteries quickly. At the highest setting the LED array consumes about 3 watt of power or nearly 600mAh which is rather too high for a AAA battery operated device. The medium setting consumes half of the rated value @ about 250mAh which is still high as most AAA batteries (Average priced) have a current rating of about 850mAh. At the best you can get about 2 hours of continuous usage at highest setting and about 4 hours of continuous usage in medium setting. (This is assuming that you have brand new excellent quality AAA batteries)I opened the review unit and found that there is no current limiting resistor whatsoever so I tweaked the circuit a little bit, removed the Zero-ohm surface-mount resistor in series with the LED array and replaced it with 10 ohm resistor so that @ the brightest setting the current draw was limited to about 200mAh thereby increasing the battery life to about 7 hours of continuous use at the brightest setting. The medium setting I could achieve about 100mAh battery drain. Granted I lost little bit of brightness in the process but it was still plenty bright after the little tweaking.Bottom-line: This is designed cheaply but at the price offered I did not expect too much. It serves its purpose. The light is white bright but does not spread-out too much... it creates more of a puddle of light.. under the light fixture. It is usable in your tent during camping but you have to keep few sets of AAA batteries in hand if you want it to run all light. It provides plenty of light. But it eats batteries like a Piranha. It's also cheaply made. The on off switch started getting flaky after trying it a few times. This is a nifty little light that you can hang any where you need it. It takes three AAA batteries and has three lighting options. It puts out a light of shine for its size! There is a wire ring you can use to hang it. Mine is in a deep cabinet under my sink that I have trouble seeing what is in the back of it. I hung it on on the pipe and it works well! This ring of bright white LEDs has a push button switch mounted on the black band around the perimeter. The switch cycles through full power/half power/blinking/off. Overall the unit, which runs on three AAA batteries, operates as expected. Given that operating time is fairly short but that brightness is excellent, I have this as an emergency light in my car glove box. In the event that I have to change a tire or add a quart of oil at night, and given that the unit can easily be hung on any convenient mounting point (a nearby tree branch, for example), this fits the bill. My unit arrived with the clear plastic bezel cracked, but this has made no difference in operating characteristics. Would suggest improved packaging to avoid this for others. For the price, this is an excellent LED hanging light which also works as a near field flashlight. The light disperses quickly so while this works well in a closet, if you go out with it at night to track down your dog in the back yard (which I have done many times), if the Dog is more than 80 feet away, the light has dropped in intensity so much that it is nearly useless. But it was not intended for that purpose, so no points off. The only problem I have had is when hanging it in my closet, it is hard to find the on button without light (which kind of defeats the purpose). But it you hang it so it is always pointing in the same direction (which required two wires), you can find the button without a problem. Otherwise, you are fumbling around for quite some time. While it recommends alkaline batteries, I used AAA rechargeable with good results. Plently of light for small areas.I had very modest expectations for the SE FL8826DB 240 lumen COB LED hanging light, and those were pretty much on the money. It's OK for hanging in a tent while you prep for the evening slumber or stow gear, but the harshness of the LED light and the fact the light does not disperse widely makes it less useful for thumbing through a paperback. Battery life is not great, so if you are taking it for an extended outing, stash a set of back-up batteries. The hanging clip, called a ballast by the manufacturer, allows you to suspend it by a piece of cord or bungee, and it can also work if propped on the ground or leaning against a cooler. The strobe effect may be handy if using as an emergency flasher or beacon or using to annoy fellow campers. All in all, this is an OK light to keep in one's pack or in the car, but if you are looking for the best option, keep looking. For a product advertised for camping or for work, the construction quality of this light is poor. It is made from thin plastic with no armoring or weather sealing. The battery door and on/off switch seem flimsy. The light is bright when I first turn it on, but drains the battery and becomes dim quickly. I've seen more reliable lights at discount stores for lower prices than this.
