If you want to spams a fortune on batteries, this is the light for you. I will say that it is very bright when the batteries are first installed, but over the course of a few hours, it starts to dim. I have another Ott travel light (white folding travel light) that seems to last longer than this one. It does have a spot for an adapter, but from the research I’ve done there isn’t one that is the correct wattage to keep the lights from blowing out over time. For $40 I expected more.I am a crafter and painter and sometimes I need more light. This light throws strong light in a small area and it's just what I need. It's very light weight and easy to move. I'm sure it will be great when the electricty is out as well. I have read other reviews that said that batteries don't last that long. I use the light in short bursts, an hour at a time and have not yet needed to change batteries. Perhaps if it was my only light I might have a different experience.The only obvious flaw is that the base is too light. This makes the light subject easy to knock over. Haven't determined the length of use with batteries yet.Very disappointing! Ineffective illumination, reboxed or refurbished unit, hard to find power supply...1- First, the lamp arrived in what seems original package, but the lamps has scratches everywhere all over the plastic casing. It is a reboxed or refurbished unit? Or OttLite has poor manufacturing quality standards?2- Second, I'm very disappointing about the range of the lamp (with new batteries). Put along side a regular 8 1/2" x 11" letter paper (landscape mode), the lamp lights up well only half of the page, you can see the illumination gradually decreasing on the other half of the page. So this lamp doesn't even have a proper illumination for a single sheet of paper. *** Update : After some testing, in a complete darken room, the lamp does cover a small 8 1/2" x 11" letter paper, but not more.3- Third, OttLite on their web site says that their Natural Daylight Illumimation technology offers a Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) of 5000K-5800K. I tested it with a colorimeter on a regular white sheet of paper, result : only 4800 Kelvin.4- Four, this lamp can operate with a 4.5 volts DC adapter (not included...). I was unable to find one on the net, not even directly from China! The only one found is a 25$ multi-voltage DC power adapter, so the same price as the lamp! So I wrote an e-mail to OttLite to ask if I could use instead a 5 volts adapter (largely available on the net). Their answer was no, they do not recommend using anything else than a 4.5 volts adapter. I then e-mailed them back again asking if they could suggest a brand and a model of 4.5 volts adapter. Their answer : no. And that's not it! When OttLite answered my e-mail, the rep said I have to use 3.4mm adpater. Good luck to find that on the net! I asked him if a a "regular" largely available 3.5mm would work, the rep's answer was : "You can try the 3.5, but I cannot say if it will work." So OttLite customer service was not helpful at all.Some pros :- Very light weight (even the batteries inside), so perfect for carrying.- Very small footprint when close, the round base has a diameter of about 3 1/2".- Easy access to the batteries compartment without any tool (no screwdriver required).This little light I bought for doing my Diamond art. I like How compact it is and thought I would like how it didn’t have the AC adapter, but it seems that the batteries if on too long the light isn’t as bright as it should be. I’ve order an adapter so I hope that works to keep the LED lights bright. Need to have bright light at night when picking up those small little diamonds!! Overall I do like the size and how it works just wished it came with the cord that way we have the option to use it or not.Bought this for crafting....loved that it's portable and powered by batteries! Not always convenient to plug in a light where you craft. It's used for counted cross stitch and diamond dots pictures too. Works great very clear light and can maneuver into needed areasUsed for a needlepoint class. Enjoyed the size but the loss of the bright light within only a couple of hours was disappointingNice design and easy to use, but my mother needed a bright light due to poor eyesight and it didn’t provide enough for her.This portable lamp is easier to see with & you can tell the light is different from regular lamps. I have to use it longer to tell how long batteries will last but I will purchase another one of this lamp.Pretty decent light for the money. I use it for pitting when I race at R/C tracks and its nice and bright. I kind of wish it were a little bit taller for standing higher above my R/C trucks so I can work on them easier, but that was mostly me not paying attention to the dimension specs, not anything wrong with the light. Battery life seems to be really good, Ive used it for 4 days in a row and still has juice.Bought this when it went on sale. Read reviews of the product before hand and thought if I used rechargeable batteries I would be fine with it. Well that was a mistake. The way it goes through batteries is crazy. But that's my fault for not believing the other reviews. As for light it's good for what I use it for.Alright they don’t include a power supply with this item. Fine.What is not fine is that there is zero documentation or acknowledgment that this product even has an option to connect a power supply. Nothing. It’s good for maybe an hour or illumination before it starts dimming so the batteries serve as a convenience at best.If this just came with an option for USB power it would be an amazing product.
