Several years ago, it was very difficult to find a reasonably priced LED desk lamp that didn't use really cheap LED's that put out a narrow, blueish, headache inducing lighting (5K and higher color temperature). One of my original recommendations with a fairly long review attached to it, was this lamp (http://www.amazon.com/review/RUOQPSOTRJF43/). Since 2013, I've been looking for a better (and again, reasonably priced) replacement. Earlier this year, I decided to give this desk lamp a try.This LED desk lamp is my current recommendation. First off is the 3200K color temperature; it's nearly the same as a halogen lamp (which is also normally around 3200K). It's not a whitish color tone (5000K) as the above Sunter LED; it's a much warmer color that is very easy on the eyes. The downside for some folks is that the light may not seem bright depending on the area that is being it lit.For myself, it lights up a 30"x24" desk area just fine (it sits on top of my 2010 Mac Pro around 18.75" high with its arms articulated into a seven shape - the head of the lamp is therefore around 26" above the surface of my desktop). At this height, the light diffuses to cover the entire desktop area.The base of the unit is heavy enough because the rest of the assembly isn't that heavy to begin with; the articulating arm itself is a lightweight metal but the lamp cowl/assembly is plastic. In other words, the quality is decent but not heavy duty. And like most LED desk lamps at this price range, it's pretty much self-contained without a user-replacable bulb assembly.At 6-months into very heavy use (on/off cycles as well as continuous hours), I'm glad I decided to give this particular desk lamp a try.Well made and sturdy, this lamp is moderately adjustable as to height and direction. The arm does not swivel from side to side on its base, but presumably the base itself can be scooted around as needed. The arm pivots are quite tight, which may be an advantage over time. The illumination the lamp provides is not high intensity, in my experience, but it is adequate for most of my lighting requirements. The overall design is simple and attractive--I have mine on my computer table, where the black of the lamp looks right with the black of the computer equipment. While the head is plastic, it is well engineered for this material. Also, after almost burning myself on my previous lamp, which had a halogen bulb, I like that this lamp stays cool.The only real negative I can think of is that the on-off switch is inconveniently and non-intuitively located at the rear of the base, where it is necessary to reach around the base and arm to get to it. Of course, the switch would be more readily accessible at the front or on top of the base or on the lamp head. Also, besides the ongoing inconvenience, finding the switch can be a bit perplexing for someone not used to the lamp. However, this negative is, to me, not big enough to be dissatisfied with the lamp as a whole. In fact, I plan to buy a second one for another space.Overall, it was a good purchase.I thought the lamp might overwhelm the room, but it's very thin and almost delicate looking. The light is GREAT... nice and warm hue instead of the colder, harsher hue that came with the lap desk. BUT THERE'S ONE MAIN PROBLEM IN TRYING TO USE IT IN THE DARK as a bedside desk lamp IF you are using the bed desktop as a writing surface.I wanted this to use late at night as the only light to brighten up the right side of the portable bed desktop (where I write on letter pad on the right and use the Oragami holder with my new HDX 8.9" on the left). This light DOES GIVE LOTS of GOOD LIGHT.... BUT, no matter what position I placed the lamp on my side table, it casts such a strong shadow of my writing hand that it was hard to see the writing on the pad.Since the light is great for ANY OTHER purpose than above (i.e. reading or just adding good light in the dark in general area, I'm keeping it for that. Will just have to find another way to get light on my writing tablet.The lamp itself was relatively satisfactory. It was bright and did not really get very warm when on.My issue is with customer service. I have contacted both Amazon and the manufacturer to replace the AC adapter which was damaged after purchase. The instructions state "If the supply cord or adapter is damaged, it must be replaced by a service agent or similarly qualified person in order to avoid hazard." It was suggested to me that I re-purchase the lamp. When I quoted the instructions as I did here, I was redirected to the manufacturer. I contacted the manufacturer a week ago and have yet to receive a response from them.Who is considered a "service agent?"I tried a universal adapter which in my limited understanding seemed to meet the specifications of the original adapter, but it did not work (i.e. the lamp would generate a lot of heat when on, so I disconnected it and stopped using it). If the lamp requires such a specialized adapter, it would be helpful if tracking one down were a bit easier.UPDATEA week later, I contacted the manufacturer a second time and received a response to my second message. They sent me a new adapter for free, which was very kind of them. Unfortunately, now the lamp isn't working. I'm not sure if the universal adapter-- which was used for a total of 15 minutes-- damaged the wiring, but in the end I had to replace the lamp. Since I'm not sure if I caused damage or if the lamp stopped working, I can't comment on its longevity. When it was working, however, I was satisfied.Cumple con lo esperadoGood solid quality, nice look, useful extra reach. I would have give a perfect note if that lamp would offer a bigger wattage power. I mean 5 watt is ok but i would have like just a little bit more of lighting. maybe 7-watt or 9-wattNice reading lamp, even if it's LEDs it ouput a warm white light to mimick the halogen. Has a nice range to its swinging arm. Decent unit, though not as substantial as I expected. Fairly solid for a unit made to be thrown away.
